Overview

King Omeihe (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and Creative Industries. He received his diploma from the University of Cambridge, his MBA from the University of Aberdeen and PhD from the Doctoral College of the University of the West of Scotland. His previous posts include Head of Division at the University of Aberdeen, Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Programme (University of Aberdeen), Director of the Global Online MBA Programme(University of Aberdeen), Head of the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme at Edinburgh Napier University and Executive Administrator at the Centre for African Research on Enterprise and Economic Development. He is a selected fellow of the West African Transitional Justice Centre and a Senior Economic Advisor on African Economic Policy at the Marcel House

He is a finalist and winner of several national and international prizes including the 2022 Recognition as Entrepreneurial Supporter of the Year (Elevator), 2018 Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Enterprise Educators Recognition Award, the 2020 Above and Beyond award for Outstanding Teaching, the 2018 STARS award for Outstanding Teaching and the 2006 Banker of the Year award. He was recognised by the British Academy of Management for his outstanding role on the council (2017-2018) and as one of the leaders shaping the future of enterprise education by Bright Red Spark.

His highly-acclaimed study of Trust, Networks and SME Internationalisation (2019) investigates the critical role alternative institutions play in driving entrepreneurial action in West Africa- and his new book on Trust and Market Institutions (2023), looks at how informal institutions enforce market agreements in conditions where actors cannot rely on formal institutional arrangements.   

He advises start-ups, business leaders and policymakers on trust, entrepreneurship, innovation and business resilience. His current roles include being Chair of African Studies at the British Academy of Management, Chair of Entrepreneurship in Minority Groups at the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, member of the Cross-party Group on International Development at the Scottish Parliament and member of the Centre for European Labour Markets.

Previously, through his role in banking and financial services, he led the growth of the commercial and private banking portfolio at Standard Bank, Access Bank, Zenith Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.
