Overview

King Omeihe (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the School of Business and Creative Industries and the UoA 17 Associate Research Lead for Strategy, People, and Research Environment. His main research areas are trust and the economics of institutions. Much of his work has focused on understanding the role of institutions in economic development and the process of institutional change. The influence of non-economic factors and other frontier issues at the intersection of trust, entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence are central to his research. Some of his publications are:Trust and Market Institutions in Africa: Exploring the role of trust in African Entrepreneurship, Palgrave Macmillan Cham (April 2023); Qualitative Research Methods for Business Students: A Global Approach, Sage (2024) and the Handbook of African Studies, Emerald Global Publishers (Feb. 2025).  

He received his diploma from the University of Cambridge, his MBA from the University of Aberdeen and PhD from the Doctoral College of the University of the West of Scotland.

His previous posts include Head of Division at the University of Aberdeen, Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Programme (University of Aberdeen), Director of the Global Online MBA Programme(University of Aberdeen) and Head of the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme at Edinburgh Napier University.He is a selected fellow of the West African Transitional Justice Centre and a Senior Economic Advisor on African Economic Policy at the Marcel House

He is the recipient of the British Academy of Management prestigious Medal for Contribution to Communities. He is a finalist and winner of several national and international prizes including the winner of the 2025 UWS Innovation Teaching Award,  2022 Recognition as Entrepreneurial Supporter of the Year (Elevator), 2018 Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Enterprise Educators Recognition Award, the 2020 Above and Beyond award for Outstanding Teaching, the 2018 STARS award for Outstanding Teaching and the 2006 Banker of the Year award. He was recognised by the British Academy of Management for his outstanding role on the council (2017-2018) and as one of the leaders shaping the future of enterprise education by Bright Red Spark.

He advises start-ups, business leaders and policymakers on trust, entrepreneurship, innovation and business resilience. His current roles include being an Expert on Development at the United Nations Trade and Development, Chair of African Studies at the British Academy of Management, Chair of Entrepreneurship in Minority Groups at the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, member of the Cross-party Group on International Development at the Scottish Parliament and member of the Centre for European Labour Markets.
