Personal profile

Current research activities

As part of my PhD I am developing, implementing and evaluating a healthy lifestyle text-messaging intervention for adolescents focusing on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and diet.

Current teaching activities and interests

My teaching experience includes conducting tutorials in the modules Physical Activity in Health and Exercise, Physical Activity and Lifelong Health, Research Methods, Psychology of Sport and Exercise Psychology. I have also conducted lectures on text-messaging/mHealth interventions and school-based interventions for physical activity. Further, I have assisted in the supervision of an undergraduate dissertation student using qualitative methods to explore same sex/mixed PE lessons for secondary school pupils.

Area of academic expertise - outline

I have a background in Sport Science and have also worked as a sports coach. During my undergraduate degree and particularly during my MSc (Physical Activity for Health at Edinburgh University), I have focused on how physical activity can be effective in promoting health and wellbeing. I am interested in using improved physical activity and sedentary behaviours as a means to promote health in adolescents, with a focus on using technology to implement interventions.
