Expertise:
I have taught on the MSc/PG Progeramme in Alcohol and Drug Studies for over 30 years.
My research interests lie in areas related to alcohol/drug use and problems. This covers a wide range of disciplines, including health and social policy and teh effectiveness of interventions on idividual and family recovery from alcohol and drug problems including addcition.
Current Research:
Following on from a Joseph Rowntree grant I am interested in poverty/deprivation and its links to addiction, particularly as a driver in the context of health inequalities.
I am also looking at the impact of changes in alcohol sales in Scotland and the impact this may have on drinking culture, patterns and consequences.
Desired direction:
Beyond my current interests I am keen to collaborate/seek funding in currrent topics (health, family, criminal justice, policy) in relation to alcohol and drug issues.
I am also interested in studying/reviewing the emergence and changes in the delivery of addiction services over the last 40 years.
Targets:
Scottish Government.
