Katie is a social scientist and Research Fellow in the School of Education and Social Sciences, University of the West of Scotland. Her research focuses on areas of social inequality including homelessness, drug-related deaths and mental health. She is currently working with Dr Aileen O'Gorman on a Scottish Government Drug Death Task Force-funded project about the role of GPs and primary care in preventing drug-related deaths. She has previously been involved in the delivery of an Independent Review of Scotland's Forensic Mental Health system.
Prior to joining UWS, Katie completed her PhD comparing the treatment of different groups within UK homelessness policy at I-SPHERE, Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. She passed her viva in February 2021 with no corrections.
