Personal profile
Area of academic expertise - outline
My research focuses on the interaction between behaviour and physiology in fish and the importance of their integrated effects when investigating how animals function.
I am interested in how environmental effects (both natural and anthropogenic) can impact the behaviour and physiology of aquatic organisms which has importance for understanding their welfare, conservation and predicting the effects of environmental change on aquatic environments.
Current research activities
My research group is currently working on the following topics:
The welfare of ornamental fish during transport.
The effects of carotenoids on the health and welfare of ornamental fish.
The attractiveness of shrimp feed in aquaculture.
The reestablishment of fish communities on restored coral reefs.
The development of non-invasive measures of fish welfare.
The role of pet fish in the primary school classroom.
The role of pets in health care.
