Overview

Joanna Isabelle Olszewska BSc(Hons) MSc(EPFL) PhD(UCL) CEng CSci FBCS FHEA is a British computer scientist. She is a lecturer (Ass. Prof.) with UWS, UK, and leads research in Algorithms and Softwares for Intelligent Vision Systems.

Senior Member of IEEE, she stands on the IEEE Artificial Intelligence Standard Committee, and she is part of the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems. She has been invited to be panel speaker at the University of Edinburgh Union Debate on 'The Future of AI'. She has given talks, e.g., at ENS Paris, at conferences such as ICRA, at symposiums such as ACM Sacramento FWS, and at events, such as Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) Anniversary Meeting, as well as interviews, e.g., for the BBC Lunch Time 'Women in Engineering' Program. She has been TPC member of over 100 international conferences such as IJCAI and has chaired over 70 conference/workshop sessions, e.g., at IROS. She has contributed to 11 ISO/IEC/IEEE standards in various roles, e.g. Vice-Chair of ISO/IEC/IEEE P41062, and she authored 90+ peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters.

She holds several awards, e.g., ESWA Outstanding Reviewer Award, and distinctions, e.g., ACM Distinguished Speaker, and she has been supervisor for 60 BSc(Hons)/MSc/PhD students, including the supervision of the Best BSc Thesis awarded by the GCHQ Prize and the supervision of the Best MSc Dissertation awarded by the AGD Prize.
