Overview

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1983 having trained at the Western General hospital in Edinburgh. I have been employed in a variety of hospital settings both in the UK and further afield including general medical, neurosurgery and acute rehabilitation departments. Later managing regional rehabilitation services in the north East of England. During this time i gained a MSc in Rehabilitation Management.  Further training led to qualification as a moving and handling trainer. In 2001 I joined Bell Collage as a joint lecturer/practitioner and in 2002 became a full time lecturer in nursing. Since joining the Faculty I have led a variety of modules at Levels 9, 10, and 11.

In addition to paid employment, I has been involved in the guiding and scouting movements and teach Scottish Country Dancing to both children and adults. I am currenly involved with the Dumfries and District Music Festival Association who celebrate their 90th year in 2018. The assiciation aims to advance the education of the public in the Arts, and in particular the Arts of Music, speech and Dance by providing a plateformfor amature persormandce for both young people and adults. I run the website and manage the social media.

Desired research direction

Interested in International/National research collaboration in Moving and handling, plagaierism and assessment.

Target collaborative organisations

Higher Education Institutions, Health Care Providers and Third Sector Organisations.
