I have over 20 years work experience in social work and social care. Mainly in residential settings including working with people experiencing homelessness, addictions, mental illness, offending and looked after children and young people.
I began teaching social work in 2002 on the BA (Hons) Residential Pathway at the Robert Gordon University. I joined UWS to teach on the social work programme in February 2014.
I am keen on developing an awareness of the concept and practice of social pedagogy and how this approach could utilised in the Scottish context. I am strongly committed to promoting better outcomes for all care experienced people in Scotland.
I also strongly believe in the importance of understanding the historical struggle of peoples oppressed by the self-interest of ruling elites and the lessons we can draw for active resistance in these troubled times.
I continue to harbour great hopes for the creation of an independent socially just Scotland.
