Activities per year
I have worked in the past in international marketing, community education development and most recently with the University of the West of Scotland in the School of Media Culture and Society. In my time with UWS I have managed and contributed to a range of technical and theoretical courses (screenwriting for film and television, audio production, film/video production and editing), and currently focus on enterprise, business development and law for media production, as well as global cultural industries. I have also produced for cinema and television.
Area of academic expertise - outline
Key areas of past research and study include flilm production, animation production, business and legal issues relating to media production, sex/sexuality/gender representations in film, and digital post-production technology in application within networked and collaborative systems. More recently I have also researched online education and moocs, and strategies for embedding enterprise across screen-based media education. On a practical level I have worked with Oscar-winning producers and produced film, documentary and animation.
Desired research direction
I continue to focus on intellectual property management for media production and screen-based business development, and current developments in film and television production. In addiition I have been looking at transmedia developments and strategies across multiple platforms. More recently I have begun focussing on global cultural industries, changing global industry structures and issues of pluralism and ownership, disintermediation and new developments in propaganda.
