Personal profile

Area of academic expertise - outline

My research exerptise is in the area of physical activity and exercise for health. I am interested in ways to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour in different populations and settings, with a particular focus on digital behaviour change interventions and their impact on health and wellbeing outcomes. I am experienced in conducting mixed-methods research, formative and process evaluations, and theory-based digital intervention development. I also have extensive experience in collecting and handling a range of physiological, health, and physical activity data that allows me to answer research questions focusing on the neuromuscular, metabolic, and behavioural effects of exercise and physical activity.

My previous rsearch students include:

  • 2014 - 2020: M McCorry (PhD) Ulster University. Sedentary Behaviour and Physical Function Among Community Dwelling Older Adults. (P/T)
  • 2014 - 2019: L Hegarty (PhD) Ulster University. Sedentary Behaviour in Primary School Children. (P/T)
  • 2015-2018: A Stephenson (PhD) Ulster University. Reducing Sedentary Behaviour in the Workplace: Using Digital Health Technology. (Funded by Vice Chancellor's Research Scholarship)
