Personal profile

Area of academic expertise - outline

I am a social worker with a strong sociological research focus.  My research experience and interest is broadly based within urban sociology, in particular social housing and state led gentrification. In this context, I am particularly interested in the social and physical changes within these environments. Additionally, I am interested in refugee and migration studies. I have a special interest in methodological developments, in visual methods and art based research in particular.

Current research activities

My current research focuses on professionals and volunteers working with Syrian refugees in the north east of Scotland. In particular I am interested in the emotional labour this creates for workers. Additionally, I am interested in the bridging experiences between the different cultures and how the body represent gender within the cultural discourse.
