Ibiyemi Omeihe (PhD) is a Lecturer in the School of Business and Creative Industries and Programme Leader for two MSc programmes: the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the MSc Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The latter is a pioneering dual degree programme co developed and co delivered in partnership between the University of the West of Scotland and the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport, marking UWS’s first dual degree collaboration with an international institution.
Her research and academic interests centre on entrepreneurship, operations management, leadership, small business development, and supply chain management, with a strong focus on decolonising business education and exploring gendered dimensions of enterprise. She collaborated closely with Robert Gordon University (RGU) and the University of Stirling on initiatives supporting women in business, fostering inclusive economic participation and advancing gender equity within entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Dr Omeihe’s work investigates how entrepreneurial ecosystems, informal economies, and institutional contexts shape inclusive and sustainable business practices, particularly in emerging markets. Recent and forthcoming publications include contributions to volumes such as Gender and Enterprise in the Global South, Rebuilding Trust through Inclusive Education, and How to Start Decolonising the Business Curriculum. She serves as Managing Editor for Applied Qualitative Research Methods and Design and International Studies in Entrepreneurship and Small Business.
She holds a PhD in Management from the University of the West of Scotland and an MBA with distinction from UWS, where she graduated top of her class and was awarded the Court Medal. She also holds a BA( Hons) in English Language. She has also earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has completed the SFEDI Diploma programme, gaining expertise in providing enterprise support within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Furthermore, she has undertaken short courses at several institutions, including INSEAD Business School, the University of Oxford, and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
Her leadership and service span a broad spectrum of academic and professional roles, both within and beyond the University of the West of Scotland. She currently serves as Chair of the Leadership Special Interest Group at the Academy of African Studies and Treasurer of the Leadership and Leadership Development Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management. Her professional influence extends into the wider community through roles such as Chair of the African Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group at the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE), Member of the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, Executive Committee Member of Scottish Women in Business, and membership in the Cross - party Group on skills at the Scottish Parliament. She serves as an Expert with Pass the Mic since 2025, supporting wider conversations around leadership and inclusion. Within UWS, she holds multiple key positions, including a Steering Group Member of the UWS BME Staff Network, a Committee Member of the HLS Academic Integrity and Ethics Committee, and a member of the Academic Integrity Panel. She is also a Thematic Lead for the Transformative Enterprise Research Group. She developed the Entrepreneurship Discussion Series at UWS to enhance enterprise education. This initiative has attracted prominent speakers who have enriched the university’s wider conversation on entrepreneurship. This initiative has led to the delivery of events designed to support and engage the academic community.
Her editorial expertise is demonstrated through her roles as Managing Editor for Applied Qualitative Research Methods and Design (Taylor & Francis) and International Studies in Entrepreneurship and Small Business. She is also a Certified Management & Business Educator with the Chartered Association of Business Schools.
She is an award winning academic who has received numerous recognitions throughout her career. In 2024, she was nominated for the Social Citizenship Award by the Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators. She has been honoured as a Gold Ambassador for Researcher Life in both 2022 and 2023, and received the UWS Researcher Development Award in the same years. Her devotion to teaching was recognised when she was named Lecturer of the Year at the University of the West of Scotland in 2022. She was celebrated as a Star Ambassador for Researcher Life in 2022 and earned a Certificate of Achievement from UWS in 2021. Her contributions to African Studies were acknowledged with the Best Developmental Award from the British Academy of Management in 2021.
