Area of academic expertise - outline

I research into the impact of curricular initiatives on students' citizenship values in terms of the development of professional practice. I also research into the Holocaust, includingr the experiences of Primo Levi and the embedding of Holocaust Education in schools. I have been entered in the education category for the 1996, 2000 and 2007 RAEs and the 2013 and 2021 REF.

  • First vice-chair of International Cultural Research Network (2007-2013).
  • Recent research reports for Scottish Government, Holocaust Educational Trust and Children’s Identity and Citizenship in Europe.
  • Recent CPL for teachers and school students on areas relating to citizenship, values and challenging sectarianism.
  • Project Board of the Jimmy Reid Foundation (a centre-left Think Tank), centrally involved in the development of Commonweal – a series of policy papers outlining social justice for a post-referendum Scotland.
