As Vice Principal & Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ehsan Mesbahi ensures the effective delivery of the University’s two major KPIs of Student Success (through Education, Teaching and Learning) and Research and Enterprise.  His portfolio also includes supporting Academic developments, Quality enhancement and Futuristic pedagogical approaches preparing our students, researchers and academics for the challenges of the 21st century.

Ehsan joined UWS in January 2016, after 22 years of working at Newcastle University where he held the Chair of Marine Informatics and the position of the Dean and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Newcastle University International Singapore (NUIS).

Ehsan’s academic interests are multi-disciplinary and wide-ranging. His focus of research and teaching activities in the early years of his 25 year academic career has been on modeling, control, design and optimization of engineering systems in technologies related to marine environment.  He further expanded his research into environmental management, policy-driven research and development of guidelines for sustainable operational practices.  Informatics and application of Artificial Intelligence in data-mining/clustering have been the center of Ehsan’s attention in recent years.  He has served in a number of strategic and policy making committees and as scientific/technical adviser to various governments, European Commission and international agencies such as United Nation’s Marine Environmental Protection Committee and a number of British and global higher education institutions for developing their strategic research, academic and internationalisation policies.

During his academic career he has been the project lead on over 25 national and international research projects, generating research income exceeding £10m and an overall turnover of education and enterprise activities over £40m.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
