Personal profile
Area of academic expertise - outline
I am an Environmental Psychologist and my work spans a wide range of environment-behaviour studies including the role of the learning environment in the educational process, environmental design within healthcare environments, predictors of pro-environmental behaviour and public participation in environmental design.
Current research activities
Recent projects have focused on dementia friendly design in care homes and identifying and evaluating the impact of new school buildings. I have recently completed a unique, nine year study that has demonstrated the impact of a new secondary school building programme in Scotland on students and staff.
Desired research direction
The goal of my research is to evaluate and understand the impact of changes to the physical environment of educational and healthcare settings. As this research continues I aim to develop an evidence base that provides examples of projects that demonstrate how environmental change is experienced by the users of these environments. I will then seek to use this evidence in partnership with architecture, design and estate management professionals to inform and influence future environmental design in educational and healthcare settings.
