Personal profile

Overview

I am environmental professional with 8 years’ experience of working in the UK public sector as a Waste Advisor, Waste Manager, Senior Facilities Coordinator and Assistant Area Manager. As a part time research student here at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) my research is on 'Carbon Efficiency within the Scottish public sector' with focus on Local Government Authorities and Universities. The research aims to determine the extent to which public sector organisations are reliant on fossil fuel energy; develop sensible steps that can be taken to reduce and where possible eliminate the reliance on fossil fuel energy; and develop steps to help the School of Science and Sports, University of the west of the Scotland, improve its carbon footprint and be more efficient. To achieve these, a multi-method qualitative approach is utilised, encompassing estimating a carbon footprint baseline for the School of Science and Sport (UWS); reviewing mandatory climate change reporting returns for select public sector organisations; and a thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with public sector professionals from the select organisations.
