Overview

Douglas is an award-winning filmmaker who is currently directing a hybrid comedy feature with Josie Long and James Acaster, based on Josie’s show Now is the Time of Monsters (2025).

Do No Harm (2020), his BFI funded short, won awards at BAFTA qualifying festivals as well as being nominated for Best UK Short at Raindance. Douglas’s short films have been nominated for three BAFTA New Talent Awards.

Super November (2018), a self-initiated, no budget feature film, was awarded distribution funding by Screen Scotland. It premiered at Glasgow Film Festival and was nominated for a BIFA. Element Pictures optioned the TV rights.

A BAFTA Scotland member, Douglas has been on labs including the EIFF Talent Lab (2017) and Talent Lab Connects (2020), as well as Stowe Story Lab (2019) and Feature Campus (2023). In 2017 he received the John Brabourne Award from the Film + Television Charity.

He took a pair of his short films on a 28 date Picturehouse Cinema tour of the UK, which is an almost unheard of successful theatrical release of short films in Europe, grossing over £25,000. Douglas co-created the BBC Radio 4 series ‘Romance & Adventure’ which was based on his short film of the same name.

Douglas has directed several shorts for BBC Scotland’s Short Stuff, and recently directed a non-TX pilot for BBC Scotland.

He teaches filmmaking part time at the University of the West of Scotland and sits on the board of Braw Talent, a social enterprise dedicated to bringing the arts and creativity to young people.
