Personal profile

Area of academic expertise - outline

David Manderson is a writer and researcher who explores the contexts and connections of creative writing in all its forms. His own writing includes novels, short stories, poetry and screenplays while his research investigates the social and cultural contexts of the art and practice of writing. It includes work on adapting for the screen, dementia studies, mental health and writing retreats, 'Scottish Miserablism', the philosophies of walking and Scottish literature, both literary and film. He has published widely in Scotland and internationally and has won a Scottish Arts Council New Writers' Award and the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship.

David has a PhD from Strathclyde University (Lost Bodies: an Original Novel with a Critical Introduction: Lost Bodies/Social Critique), a Masters in Creative Writing from Glasgow/Strathclyde Universities and an MA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from the University of St Andrews. He also has postgraduate qualifications in Screenwriting and Academic Supervision. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Other areas of expertise available for knowledge exchange

Novel development, writing retreats, project management of creative work, mentoring of creative work, adaptations from archive and found sources, screenwriting.
