Personal profile

Area of academic expertise - outline

I am interested in the areas of cyberpsychology and cognition. I am currently involved in projects exploring perceptions of cyberdeviance (i.e. cyberstalking and cyberflashing, the use of the Internet of Things in domestic abuse perpetration). I am also interested in the effects of online technology on cognition, including the effects of online environments on our abilities to regulate our cognitions (i.e. metacognition).

Current research activities

I am currently involved in various projects surrounding cyberdeviance. I am working collaboratively with De Montfort University and London Metropolitan University to explore public perceptions of cyberstalking behaviour. I am also working with De Montfort University in developing toolkits to support victims of domestic abuse and raise awareness of the use of technologies in DA perpetration. I  am working in collaboration with Lincolnshire Council and the University of Lincoln to determine the effects of online harms on young people and determining how best to support safer online communication.

Additionally, I am working on educational projects. I have submitted a grant to explore the role of learning technologies on metacognitive calibration. I am also working on a project to determine whether differences exist in metacognitive confidence between first-generation and continuing-generation students.
