Dan has over twenty years experiencing working in the British TV and media sector and is a BAFTA Scotland and RTS Scotland award-winning TV Producer. He has worked in-house for BBC, BBC Scotland, STV and ITV, and various TV independent production companies in Glasgow, Manchester, Norwich, Leeds and London. This includes working on Factual, Features, Factual Entertainment, Entertainment, Children's, Quiz and Documentary series.
Recently, Dan was the Producer for Channel 4 documentary film, Billionaire Blooms at Christmas, which over one million viewers viewed. He also Edit Produced Channel 4's Mend it For Money and BBC One's Antiques Road Trip, and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. Dan produced the BAFTA award-winning Armchair Detectives and RTS award-winning The TV That Made Me.
In 2019, Dan became an Executive at Channel 4 in the Nations and Regions department. Where he supported the independent TV production companies in building relationships with the channel, he also nurtured diverse talent and supported the production company's growth fund grant applications.
Dan has developed and won commissions for various independent production companies and broadcasters, including BBC Two's Building Dream Homes, BBC One Northern Ireland's A Northern Irish Wedding and E4's Letters in Lockdown.
Dan joined the lecturing staff part-time in 2021, where he continues to blend working in the industry with lecturing and academic research.
Dan's research interest is in media production cultures, factual formats development and multiplatform.
Dan's expertise is in Television and Radio Development of Factual Formats in U.K. and International markets. His experience in numerous TV production supports learning in various modules, including Developing Factual Formats and TV Studio Production.
Dan's expertise also supports learning in the ever-evolving Multiplatform and Digital landscape. His first degree is in Politics and Sociology, so he continues to have a strong interest in Cultural Studies and American Society.
Dan is the module coordinator for Production for Multiplatform (Level 9) and American TV (Level 10). He also supports team teaching on Factual Formats, Research for Broadcast and TV Studio Production modules.
Dan is also a regular supervisor for undergraduate Creative Research Projects (CRPs)
Dan's passion is in developing Factual Formats that sell internationally and discovering the TV formats that resonate with various audiences and countries around the globe.
He also has a strong interest in the developing Nation and Region's television sector and how long returnable Daytime TV series support the independent sector in Scotland.
