Area of academic expertise - outline

I am a registered nurse with a background in critical care nursing.   My particular area of interest is the support and development of non-technical skills in newly qualified nurses and how these will align to the new transforming nursing roles.

Current research activities

I am currently looking to explore the use of General Practice Nurse environments as practice learning placements for Year 3 student nurses.  There are currently 5 Year 3 students out on placement within these settings and an evaluation of this project will be carried out.  I hope to conduct focus groups to explore experiences of these placements from both a student and GPN perspective.

Desired research direction

I am interested in exploring the support and development of non-technical skills for student nurses and newly qualified nurses.  I am keen to publsh work with regard to the GPN practice learning environment project I am leading.

Other areas of expertise available for knowledge exchange

I have begun filming to put together an advertising video to try to encourage males to entre the nursing profession.  I would be interested to explore whether this video, once edited and distributed, does indeed help to increase the number of males applying to study adult nursing.
