Dr Clair Graham is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery & Specialist Nursing. Clair is an experienced academic with an extensive clinical background in Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visting and Practice Development. Clair's current research examines the development of communication competence and the impact on patient safety. 


Area of research interest:

Communication competence and patient safety

Children & families health and well-being

Health inequalities and the role of the health professional (nurse/midwife/health visitor) in improving health outcomes.

Educational theory and practice with a focus on social learning approaches

Phenomenological theory; particular interest in Gadamerian Hermeneutics


Current research activities:

Communication competence and patient safety: understanding the connection for safe care.

Application of Gadamer's philosophical principles to the development of nursing practice


Desired research direction:

My aim is to continue to develop research across the health, nursing and social care contexts with a focus on developing education and practice outcomes.

All HEIs engaged in teaching,  learning  and research developments within the field of health, nursing and social care.
