Overview

Dr Clair Graham is a Senior Lecturer in Specialist Nursing and the lead for Advanced Clinical Practice and Prescribing within the Midwifery & Specialist Nursing Division.

Clair is an experienced academic with an extensive background across undergraduate/post graduate nursing and  post graduate health programme delivery, and is highly experienced in online education delivery. Clair has a wealth of clinical experience, with her clinical background  extending across  Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visting and Practice Development.

Clair's  Prof D.  research examined the development of communication competence and the impact on patient safety in pre-registration adult nursing.

 

Area of research interest:

Communication competence and patient safety

Children & families health and well-being

Health inequalities and the role of the health professional (nurse/midwife/health visitor) in improving health outcomes.

Development of Advanced Practice decision making skills

Educational theory and practice with a focus on social learning approaches

Phenomenological theory; particular interest in Gadamerian Hermeneutics

 

Current research activities:

Communication competence and patient safety: understanding the connection for safe care.

Application of Gadamer's philosophical principles to the development of nursing practice

 

Desired research direction:

My aim is to continue to develop research across the health, nursing and social care contexts with a focus on developing education and practice outcomes for advanced practice.

All statutory and third sector organisations involved in health and social care provision.

All HEIs engaged in teaching,  learning  and research developments within the field of health, nursing and social care.
