Overview
Dr Christopher Mafuva joined the University of the West of Scotland in February 2020 as a Lecturer in Professional Health Studies.Chris is a Biomedical Scientist who diversified into Public Health. Chris formerly worked as a Programme Leader for a collaborative BSc Public Health and Health Promotion course before moving to teach and manage the BSc Health and Social Care Programme. Chris has also effectively delivered the Health Promotion modules through blended learning.
Dr Mafuva holds a BSc in Applied Biology and Biochemistry, an MSc in Biomedical Sciences and a Doctor of Health degree. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. Chris was awarded the Michael Gelfand Medical Research Fellowship, British Council Chevening Scholarship and the University of East London Visiting Research Associateship. Chris received his Doctor of Health in 2019 entitled Effect of Ethinylestradiol and Levonorgestrel on Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Induced Apoptosis in Human Cervical Epithelial Cancer Cells. Prior to moving to the United Kingdom, Chris worked at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences where he participated in teaching and research in the Department of Anatomy.

Current research activities
- Chris completed a Doctor of Health thesis in 2019 entitled Effect of Ethinylestradiol and Levonorgestrel on Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Induced Apoptosis in Human Cervical Epithelial Cancer Cells. Chris is currently working on collaborative writing on retrovirology and cancer with a peer from a local (UK) university.
- Chris continues to explore retrovirology by participating in Public Health collaborative review/perspectives on epidemiology with peers in subSaharan African Universities
