Dr Christopher Mafuva joined the University of the West of Scotland on the 17Th of February 2020 as a Lecturer in Professional Health Studies. Chris formerly worked as a Programme Leader for a collaborative BSc Public Health and Health Promotion course before moving to teach and manage the BSc Health and Social Care Programme. In addition, Chris has had experience as a Visiting Lecturer supervising BSc Health and Social Care dissertations at Level 6. Chris has also effectively delivered the Health Promotion modules through blended learning.
Dr Mafuva holds a BSc in Applied Biology and Biochemistry, an MSc in Biomedical Sciences and a Doctor of Health degree. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. Chris was awarded the Michael Gelfand Medical Research Fellowship, British Council Chevening Scholarship and the University of East London Visiting Research Associateship. Chris received his Doctor of Health in 2019 entitled Effect of Ethinylestradiol and Levonorgestrel on Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Induced Apoptosis in Human Cervical Epithelial Cancer Cells. Chris has research interests spanning from Reproductive Health Issues in developing countries, Inequity in Global Public Health and Biomedical Research with emphasis on Biomedical Toxicology. His research outputs include 9 research papers and conference presentations. In addition, Chris also has research interests in effective teaching and attainment for students in the widening participation institutions. Prior to moving to the United Kingdom, Chris worked at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences where he participated in teaching and research in the Department of Anatomy.
