Personal profile

I have worked as a nurse within the medical directorate, Accident and Emergency, in Glasgow and New Zealand and ICU in Glasgow and Leeds.

My teaching background includes a secondment at Glasgow Caledonian University, a lecturing position at Leeds Metropolitan University and The university of the West of Scotland where I have been employed since 2013.

I am currently the year three lead for the adult nursing BSc at Paisley campus.  I am module coordinator for the Minor Injuries module which sits within the unscheduled care, post-graduate program. I am site lead for Fitness to Practice, Holistic Skills and PLE 3.2 within the BSc Adult Nursing program at Paisley campus.

I am also the Erasmus site lead at Paisley campus for the undergraduate program.

Area of academic expertise - outline

My background is predominantly acute nursing care, but my research interests are in Nursing education and Internationalisation.

Current research activities

I am currently involved with a study exploring the experiences of patients in the community with indwelling urethral catheters. This has been a collaboration between UWS, QNIS and West Dunbartonshire Health and Social care. WE are currently awaiting publication of findings and preliminary findings have been presented at an International conference I Slovenia.

Desired research direction

As part of my Professional Doctorate studies, I am keen to explore the implementation of Kuracloud into the pre-registration nursing program. This type of innovative learning which is based around virtual simulation has been implemented recently and I aim to carry out a quantitative study to assess students ability in problem-solving and clinical skills decision making since it was introduced.
