Dr Attahir is a lecturer in the School of Business and Creative Industries and the programme leader for MSc Accounting & Finance and MSc Finance with Data Analytics. He holds a diverse academic background with a PhD in Economics, an MSc in Econometrics, an MBA in Human Resource Management, a PGD in NGO Management, a Professional Diploma in Education, and a BSc in Economics.
Before joining UWS, he taught at the University of Aberdeen Business School and held teaching positions abroad. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE), underscoring his commitment to high standards in teaching and learning.
Dr Attahir’s current research focuses on sustainable development, with particular attention to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, 7, 8, 12, and 13). He has published extensively in reputable journals, including the Journal of Economic Studies, Journal of Policy Modelling, Sustainable Development, Climate and Development, Resources Policy, and Applied Economics Letters.
Dr Attahir is an editorial board member of Springer's Discover Sustainability Journal and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications Journal, serving as Associate Editor for both journals. He is currently Co-Chair of the Development Studies SIG of the Academy for African Studies and also the Research Outcomes and Publication Lead of CAREED UWS. His professional memberships include the Royal Economic Society, the Scottish Economic Society, and the British Academy Early Career Research Network.
