My interests and expertise are in the areas of logistics and supply chain management and lean production and service systems, in particular supply chain configuration and modelling, supply chain dynamics, knowledge management in supply chains and application of lean principles in service and manufacturing systems.

Currently my research activity is focused on reconfiguration methodologies for retail supply chains, sustainability assessment of bio-fuel to energy supply chains, knowledge management in the supply chain for new product development, and sustainable performance evaluation in supply chains.

Based on the acquired experience up to date my interest is focused on application of network theory in supply chains. Supply chains are best described as networks and recent theoretical advances in complex adaptive network theory offer the possibility to examine supply chains with a new theoretical perspective and develop tools for configuration decision making, performance assessment, sustianability and resilience.

Athanasios Kourouklis (BSc(Honours) Naval Architecture , PhD Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Strathclyde Scotland) is a senior lecture in the School of Business and Enterprise at the University of the West of Scotland. His research interests include supply chain reconfiguration, supply chain network performance, knowledge management in supply chains, business process improvement (lean systems). He has published more than 40 articles in these areas and has worked with a number of companies on supply chain and process improvements.
