Personal profile

Overview

I have a background in cancer and community nursing, and have a specialist focus on care of people with lymphoedema and lipoedema.  I have worked across acute, community and third sectors, and contributed to the development of lymphoedema services in several settings. I also work as a trustee for Talk Lipoedema, a charity supporting women with lipoedema in Scotland, and have my own small business called Esklymphology.

I have been an educator for many years working in different higher education institutions in Scotland.

I completed my PhD in 2011, undertaking a qualiative study of supported self care in women with lymphoedema after breast cancer.  I have supervised four doctoral students to completion, and have experience of examining post-graduate theses and dissertations.

Current research activities

I recently completed a Carnegie funded study of the experiences of women with lipoedema in Scotland and am extending this work to develop a programme of self-management support in collaboration with Talk Lipoedema.

Current teaching activities and interests

I currently teach on the pre-registration nursing programmes and enjoy working with students on all areas of nursing practice and theory.
