I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of the West of Scotland, where I work alongside my director of studies Dr Paul Keir. I graduated from the University of the West of Scotland with a BSc in Computer Games Technology in 2014 and then worked in Web Development before returning to work towards a PhD.
My current main area of research aims to make heterogenous architectures more programmable which will allow easier access to the every day programmer, instead of requiring specialists. At the moment the main heterogenous architecture that interests me is the CPU/GPU combination that appears in everday personal computers. This particular architecture allows for incredibly fast single instruction multiple data calculations to be performed using the GPU. This is known as general-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU). There are dozens of programming models that deal with GPGPU programming such as OpenCL and CUDA and working on ways to make these easier to work with is one of my research interests. Other research interests include programming languages, C++ template metaprogramming, graphics programming and games programming.
