Overview

Abeer Hassan is Reader in Accounting, School of Business and Creative industries at the University of West of Scotland, UK. She is a leading scholar and her innovative, evidence-based research has appeared in highly regarded outlets. Abeer has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Abeer is Also act as PhD lead coordinator in the School of Business and Creative Industries. Abeer is also the Unit of Assessement  17 Associate Lead for Environment and Research Culture  

 Abeer joined the University in December 2004 as a Lecturer in Accounting and promoted to Senior Lecturer in Accounting in 2017. Before that she had taught and researched accounting at Nottingham University and Keele University.

Before joining academia, Abeer worked as an auditor for 10 years at the National Authority of Auditing and Performance Evaluation, Egypt. She got her first degree in Accounting in 1986, awarded MSc in 1994 and PhD in 2003.

Abeer is a leading scholar in the field of Corporate social responsibility and Environmental management, Integrated Reporting, Biodiversity, Extinction Accounting. She is also expert in the area of Private equity and venture capital as sources of finance for SMEs, Female entrepreneurship, Gender in Accounting.

Current teaching activities and interests

 In terms of Teaching & Learning and Students’ Success. As a reflective practitioner, Abeer has more than 20 years teaching experience in UK HE sector, leading modules and programmes. She believes that having passion for teaching and learning activities to embody the enthusiasm for the subjects and bring research expertise into classroom is one of her qualities. She supports delivering teaching that is based on contemporary approaches to learning and is constantly scanning for improvements, based on students’ feedback as partners in the learning process. This is to ensure students are capable of transferring knowledge into practice. She is keen advocate of embedding employability and graduate skills into courses and provide supportive learning environment that ensures maximum student engagement and promote the interactive approach in staff-student contact time to develop independent learners.

In her teachig, Abeer is always create an interactive environment with students and prefer to adopt innovative ideas for assessment to encourage students to link theory into practice.

Abeer teaches Management Accounting with more focus on suistianability.

Abeer is always provide support to her students to develop their employability skills beside their academic skills to be ready for professsional  jobs after graduation.

Abeer always receive nominations for "the Lecturer of the year" as a recognition from her students.
