Virtual Student Showcase celebrating a small selection of the fantastic research and study activities UWS students have undertaken during academic year 2019/2020.

With examples drawn from our four academic Schools, our students’ diverse, industry-relevant and innovative work reflects the incredible efforts of UWS undergraduates and postgraduates during the past year. During recent months, these endeavours have also seen students and colleagues joining forces to support national efforts against coronavirus, as demonstrated on our UWS Together page.

DescriptionThe investigation carried out in this Honours project aimed to characterise reduction of the thermal noise observed in mirror coatings at the range of frequencies where GWDs are more sensitive. To this end, this project has been developed at the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging (University of the West of Scotland) led by Prof.Des Gibson, and supervised by Dr. Carlos Garcia Nuñez from UWS in collaboration with Dr.Martin at the Institute for Gravitational Research (University of Glasgow), Prof.Reid (University of Strathclyde) and Prof.Jin Long (University of Tong Ji, Shanghai, China).
