Description
The Scottish Government has announced the creation of a ‘Poverty and Inequality Commission’ in 2017-18. Will this commission provide an opportunity to build momentum around new policies needed to reduce poverty and inequality? Or is it a way of pushing difficult issues into the long grass? How can we ensure it does the former and not the latter? How should the commission work and what should it focus on?This UWS-Oxfam Partnership Policy Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss these questions and others, along with contributions from:
Paul Tyrer, Head of Social Justice Team, Scottish Government
Emma Ritch, Director, Engender
Gerry McCartney, Head of Public Health Observatory, NHS Health Scotland
Carla McCormack, Policy Officer, Poverty Alliance
Gail Irvine, Policy Officer, Carnegie UK Trust
Caroline Kennedy, Commissioner, Poverty Truth Commission
Jamie Livingstone, Head of Oxfam Scotland
Chik Collins, Professor of Applied Social Sciences, UWS
