To groupwork or not to groupwork? Reflecting on Groupwork as an Assessment Tool in Higher Education: Reflecting on Groupwork as an Assessment Tool in Higher Education

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

Groupwork, often referred to as collaborative or cooperative learning, promotes cooperation, participation, and enhances communication and conflict-resolution skills. It is seen as superior to individual learning when structured with elements like positive interdependence and individual accountability (Cohen, 1994; Johnson & Johnson, 2018). However, its use in module assignments raises concerns about fairness, inclusivity, and individual assessment. This workshop encourages an interactive discussion on these challenges, aiming to equip educators with insights to improve groupwork as an assessment tool through peer-to-peer learning and practical exercises.
