Speed Networking Event, Longdean School, Hertfordshire, STEM Ambassador Volunteering

Activity: OtherTypes of Public engagement and outreach - Schools engagement

Description

The event aimed at enabling year 7 students to talk to a variety of employers and employees about their job roles and possible career routes, which will help them make key decisions regarding options. There were about 220 students.
Students were grouped 9-12 and spent 10-15 minutes with me as I introduced myself, my job role, what qualification(s) do I hold that enabled me to work for the organisation I am currently employed for. The students had a booklet with them and I was asked some questions, which I happily answered.
These questions included my career journey, the qualifications that they might need to do my role, my organisation and the services/products they provide, what do I enjoy about my role, how my organisation recruits and at what level (apprentices, graduates etc), and how great my organisation is to work for and why etc.
