Description
I project managed and wrote up this research project as part of a KTP agreement with private company G71 Productions. This company brought a box of original letters, medals and certificates to UWS and proposed using them as the basis of a TV programme. The research involved raising finance of £5,750 (Scottish Funding Council voucher and Carnegie Trust for Scotland) to translate original documents from Flemish and to transcribe recorded tapes, and base the written-up research on these sources, on my own expertise in the experience of small nations in the First World War and on my experience in story-telling, and on the book "Spying in World War 1" (Osprey: 2013). The resulting document "Rayon de Soliel": Research & Timeline" traced Margriet's story from her early years in a small Belgian town to her exhilarating and romantic story during WW1 against the backdrop of war and deprivation suffered by ordinary people during German occupation. This document was used to develop a treatment for a drama documentary "The Search for Agent Sunbeam" by PhD student Eleanor Yule, while a budget was drawn up by Meadkerr productions. The project was cancelled due to a rights issue.
