From Efficiency-led AI Use to Dialogic Co-construction: A Digital Maieutic Approach to Inclusive AI Pedagogy in Higher Education

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

This interdisciplinary project introduces the Digital Maieutic Approach (DMA), an integrated pedagogical framework that repositions generative AI from an efficiency-driven tool to a dialogic partner in higher education. Drawing on an interpretivist study of 92 postgraduate students across four modules, the approach synthesises Universal Design for Learning, Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, Digital Learning Power, Critical Digital Pedagogy and the ICAP model of cognitive engagement to support inclusive curriculum and assessment design. The presentation shared empirical evidence of how structured AI-mediated dialogue enhanced reflective meaning-making, intercultural awareness and student agency, and offered a transferable model for embedding ethical, human-centred AI within academically rigorous practice.
