Description
This research examines the impact of intercultural learning environments in addressing marginalisation among immigrant-background children in Greek primary schools. Focusing on the interplay between "identity" and "otherness," the study seeks to dismantle stereotypes and foster positive intercultural relations through educational practices based on Lipman's (2006) "classroom as a community of inquiry." Using a mixed-method action research approach, the study implemented and assessed an intercultural learning environment in two classrooms—one multicultural and one exclusively Greek. The findings revealed a positive shift in students' perceptions of identity and otherness, although the process was challenging. This research underscores the effectiveness of intercultural teaching strategies and highlights the potential for creating inclusive educational environments that celebrate cultural diversity.
