Careers Day, Oxhey Wood Primary School, Hertfordshire, STEM Ambassador Volunteering

Activity: OtherTypes of Public engagement and outreach - Schools engagement

Description

During this STEM Career talk, I shared with year 2 and year 3 students my career path to Civil Engineering. To this end, I introduced the students to the Engineering discipline in general with a particular emphasis on Civil Engineering. As such, I showed the students some tools used by Civil Engineers while they working on-site (e.g. thermal imaging camera and moisture meter). I also highlighted to the students the academic qualifications needed to become an Engineer/Civil Engineer but also the professional qualifications that are required after successfully completing an academic qualification. In doing so, I presented the students with the training required to obtain a professional qualification, sharing in this process the training that I am currently taking as part of applying for a CEng status.
