Description
As a co-applicant and organiser, I contributed to securing £2,450 in British Academy funding for the 4th Sustainability Multidisciplinary Meet-up – SHAPEing a Just Transition. I also played a key role in planning and delivering this annual event, which brings together early career researchers (ECRs) from across the SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) disciplines to network, share research, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations that address pressing sustainability challenges.The meet-up continues to strengthen the SHAPEing Net Zero consortium by promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and innovative approaches to decarbonisation, climate justice, circularity, wellbeing, and community engagement. The 2026 theme, "SHAPEing a Just Transition," explored the social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of achieving a fair and decarbonised future, with particular emphasis on circularity, whole-life carbon thinking, effective climate communication, and community-led action to advance inclusive and sustainable change. As a member of the organising team, I contributed to programme development, event coordination, and the facilitation of knowledge exchange and collaboration across a diverse range of SHAPE disciplines.
The successful British Academy funding application was led by Dr Muzammal Khan (University of the West of Scotland), with co-applicants Jing Zhao (University of Bristol), Diana Wong Abdullah (Nottingham Trent University), Sue Langford (University of Plymouth), Lui Tam (Cardiff University), Xiuli (Shelly) Guo (University of the West of Scotland), and myself.
