Description

Day 1/ Delivered/ 14.40-15.20 - Using Social Media
This interactive workshop will provide an overview of the ever-expanding and challenging social media landscape before turning to highlight the importance of content and context to academics. Drawing on a number of activities the workshop will focus on the applications and impacts of digital and social technologies and how it can be used to enhance teaching and learning. It is envisaged that it will culminate with the share of experience via social media channels and an opportunity for staff, if they wish, to further develop their digital distinction.

Day 2/ 14.35-15.05/Session 11: Accelerating Empowered Education: from Digital Distinction to the Branded Academic.

This session highlights how, in this age of acceleration and ubiquitous and transformational technologies, higher education is undergoing a paradigm shift. Focusing on progress and developments of the Googl-ED: Accelerating Empowered Education project, we argue that education demands a new performativity that is physically and digitally distinctive. This sees the rise of a digitally and socially branded academic where the educational experience is, increasingly, one that is mobile, interactive, co-created, convergent and curated online. Moreover, in light of a tsunami of transformational technologies, that are more now than future, we highlight that the challenges of digital and social media are merely the tip of the iceberg.
