Area of research expertise - Outline

There are three key areas in my research.  The first is Adaption theory to explore the process of transformation from the written word to the text produced for the screen.  The second is contemporary versions of British "social realism" in both television and film, in particular the work of Ken Loach.  Lastly I have an interest in the depiction of gender in television and film.

Current research activities.

I am currently researching possible PhD topics to develop my research profile.

I would like to publish my research on adaptation theory (Shakespeare on film) as a journal article or in another academic publication and deliver another conference paper on this research at a 'niche' or small conference.

Desired research direction.

To develop my research on adaptation, 'social realism' and discourses of gender on television.

Target Collaborative Companies (National, International, up to 3).

I retain strong links with the broadcast/film industry (BBC Scotland and Sigma Films) and would like to develop research around aspects of practice-based broadcasting related to academic media theory.

I would like to develop RUK and International links with other academics interested in similar areas of research.

Other areas of Expertise available for knowledge exchange.

I would like to develop research around my involvment with the Women's Screenwriting Forum and Women in Film and Television network.
